Solar Control Films: Stop Heat and UV

Solar control films are applied to the glass of homes, offices and storefronts to cut heat and UV rays without giving up natural light. A discreet, effective way to improve comfort, privacy and energy efficiency, all year round.

What they are and how they work

They are thin adhesive films that go onto your existing glass, with no need to replace the windows. They filter solar radiation: they reflect most of the heat and block up to 99% of UV rays, while still letting light through.

The result is a cooler space in summer, less glare and greater privacy from the outside. If the glass breaks, the film holds the fragments together and adds an extra layer of safety.

The benefits at a glance

  • Less heat. They reject much of the sun's energy and ease the load on your air conditioning, saving on cooling costs.
  • UV protection. They block up to 99% of ultraviolet rays, the ones that fade furniture, fabrics, hardwood floors and any surface exposed to light.
  • Privacy with natural light. They limit the view from outside while keeping your view out, with no heavy curtains or shutters.
  • Comfort and style. Less glare on screens and desks, plus clean, modern glazing available in a range of tints.

How much they cut heat and UV

On the glass itself the temperature can drop by around 10°, while the perceived heat in the room improves noticeably. The real effect depends on sun exposure, the orientation of the glazing and the type of film you choose.

For UV rays, protection reaches up to 99%, an important figure for safeguarding furnishings and your health in the rooms most exposed to the sun.

Where they go and how we work

Solar control films suit almost any glazed surface, at home just as much as in the workplace:

  • Homes. Sun-facing windows, French doors and verandas, for better living comfort all year round.
  • Offices and meeting rooms. Less glare on screens and more focus, with privacy from the outside.
  • Storefronts and shops. They protect goods from fading and give the entrance a polished look.
  • Practices and clinics. Discretion for those who walk in, without giving up natural light.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to apply solar control films?

The price depends on the square metres of glass to be covered and the type of film you choose. After a quick site visit we prepare a tailored quote, with no obligation.

How much do they reduce heat?

On the glass the temperature can fall by around 10°, for a noticeably cooler space. The result varies depending on sun exposure, window orientation and the film used.

Do the films make the room dark?

No. Solar control films filter out heat and UV while letting natural light through. They come in different tints: from light and clear to more opaque for greater privacy.

How long do the films last?

With professional installation they last several years. Quality materials and correct fitting extend their life; over time the film can be replaced.

Do I need a permit to apply them?

For home windows no authorisation is usually required. In a condominium it's worth checking the building rules, while for listed or protected buildings a preliminary check is best.
